Protect six missable ReStory achievements with three named checkpoints for Origami, the Haruhi/Kaito/Baketsu invitation branches, and the final ending choice.
Six missable achievements at a glance
The public Steam conditions are short, so this table adds the earliest useful checkpoint and the action that can close the route. Treat the character branches as separate saves until their notifications appear.
| Achievement | Route action | Protect this save |
|---|---|---|
| Origami | Refuse the courier's payment after the child's Eggotchi repair and make the job free | Before the courier payment conversation |
| Melancholy | Complete Haruhi's route, Tourist repairs, and the post-repair conversation on the Haruhi branch | Before inviting or housing a character |
| Ronin | Invite Kaito alone and continue until he discovers the watch | Before any invitation |
| Ghost in the Frame | Invite Baketsu alone and continue until he discovers the watch | Before any invitation |
| Globalization | At Hashimoto's final choice, accept the redevelopment outcome | Before the post-concert Hashimoto conversation |
| Rock for the Ages! | Take the opposite final choice: sell the shop to Takumi and direct the proceeds to the concert | The same final-choice save |
The three-checkpoint plan
Checkpoint A belongs before the courier offers to cover the child's Eggotchi bill. Checkpoint B belongs before the first invitation or stay-over choice involving Haruhi, Kaito, or Baketsu. Checkpoint C belongs after Yamato reports the concert cancellation but before Hashimoto asks what happens next. Keep the current playthrough in a fourth slot. Do not rotate these three anchors into ordinary repair saves.
Haruhi, Kaito, and Baketsu cannot share one clean invitation branch
Kaito and Baketsu both depend on being the invited character who finds the watch. Once someone else takes that scene, the other route may no longer become available on that save. Haruhi has her own story chain and invitation state, so completionists should also isolate her route instead of testing it after another guest. Reload the untouched pre-invitation checkpoint for each branch; do not merely dismiss one guest and invite the next.
Melancholy: preserve the Haruhi route before the last Tourist hand-in
Finish the Tourist repairs tied to Haruhi and complete her follow-up conversation. Keep one save before returning the last relevant repair and a second before the invitation or stay-over decision. If the achievement does not unlock, verify that Haruhi's final conversation actually played before advancing unrelated days. Do not overwrite the pre-invitation anchor until Steam shows Melancholy.
Ronin and Ghost in the Frame: branch from the same save
For Ronin, invite Kaito and allow his story to continue until the watch repair appears. For Ghost in the Frame, reload the untouched checkpoint, invite Baketsu instead, and wait for that character's watch scene. Community routes consistently warn that inviting another character first can consume the trigger. Use different slot names—Kaito watch and Baketsu watch—so the two attempts cannot be confused.
Globalization and Rock for the Ages! need only one final-choice checkpoint
After Yamato explains that the concert will be canceled, Hashimoto presents the ending decision. One option accepts the new development and leads to Globalization. The other sells the shop to Takumi and directs the proceeds to the concert, leading to Rock for the Ages! Save before answering, let the full ending and achievement notification finish, then reload that same checkpoint for the other result.
How to restore a backup without sacrificing the current run
Quit the game before copying or restoring save data. Preserve the whole save folder, not a single file whose role is unclear, and give the backup a route name plus timestamp. Use Steam Cloud carefully: confirm which copy is newer before allowing synchronization. The dedicated Save Location guide links tinyBuild's supported BackupSaveData restore steps for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Steam Deck.
Missable cleanup checklist
Do this audit before a point-of-no-return conversation.
- Origami notification confirmed
- Untouched pre-invitation checkpoint retained
- Haruhi branch saved separately
- Kaito watch branch saved separately
- Baketsu watch branch saved separately
- Pre-final-choice checkpoint retained
- Steam is online before checking notifications
- External backup tested before deleting any slot
