Start with the default settings
Install the available Steam update, launch the game normally and try a repair using the built-in controls. The compatibility result supports starting with the defaults; it does not justify publishing invented frame-rate or battery-life figures. Before changing several settings, note the game build, display mode and the task that feels slow. Compare the same repair scene after changing one setting at a time.
- Try the default graphics profile before copying a desktop preset.
- If you choose a lower frame-rate cap for battery life, treat it as a personal trade-off, not a measured optimum.
- Do not force a particular Proton version solely because it appears in an old troubleshooting post.
A connected controller does not respond
The compatibility record includes a specific caveat: external Bluetooth or USB controllers may not become active automatically. Open the Steam Deck Quick Access Menu and check the controller assignment. Test input in the game menu before returning to a delicate repair. A controller-selection issue is different from a part that cannot be placed; changing controllers is not a proven fix for a broken assembly state.
Slowdown, heat or a repair that gets stuck
Verified describes compatibility, not a temperature benchmark. The compatibility rating does not specify temperature, battery life or a universal FPS target. For an unusual slowdown, record the scene, graphics settings, SteamOS version and game build. For soldering or story progression, check the relevant guide and current patch notes instead of assuming a Steam Deck-specific fault. Keep a separate save before trying a workaround; do not reset the campaign or delete Proton files as a first step.
Protect saves before troubleshooting
Use Save Location for the Steam Deck save path and BackupSaveData recovery procedure. Copy the current saves and backup folder before restoring anything, and keep Steam Cloud from replacing the copy you intend to recover. Five save slots were added in 1.0.013r; that addition is separate from the August 24 compatibility test. Keep one slot for normal progress and another for experiments.
